Parish Life at St.
Alban's Anglican Cathedral
Saint Alban's is the Cathedral Church of the
Diocese of the Eastern United
States of the Anglican Province of America. We are a part of the historic Holy
Catholic Church, tracing its teaching and ministry to the Apostolic Church, and
part of the worldwide Traditional Anglican movement.
In worship, we use the
Book of Common Prayer, 1928 edition. This edition
contains prayers and affirmations of faith dating to the beginning of
Christianity, as well as the traditional Anglican / Episcopal liturgy. This
liturgy has been in continuous use since it was published in 1549.
Our Faith
‘This is none other but the House of God, and this is the gate of Heaven!" We
welcome you to our parish in the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Ours is a
traditional Anglican parish of Christ’s One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic
Church.
We profess the orthodox Christian Faith as revealed to the Apostles,
recorded in Holy Scripture, enshrined in the three Creeds and the Seven
Ecumenical Councils of the ancient undivided Church, and received through the
Church of England.
As the Orthodox Church of the West, traditional Anglicanism
faithfully maintains the Catholic and Apostolic Religion as expressed in the
1928 American Book of Common Prayer.
Our Church believes in the fullness of the
Christian Gospel: we celebrate the Seven Sacraments of the historic Catholic
Church.
Our Cathedral Church is the Mother Church of the Diocese of the Eastern
United States of the Anglican Province of America, which is part of the
worldwide Traditional Anglican movement.
Our Tradition is often called the
‘Continuing Church.’ Saint Alban’s is a growing, dynamic, family-oriented
Church, a unique and intimate Christian family committed to a life of witness,
service, and outreach to our community.
Our Worship
Our worship is centered on the Holy Eucharist, the Mass. We believe in the Real
Objective Presence of Our Lord’s precious Body and Blood in the Blessed
Sacrament and His re-presentation of the One Perfect Sacrifice in the Sacrament
of the Altar.
We are Evangelical Catholics, seeking to proclaim the Lord Jesus
Christ to every creature by the preaching of the Word of God. In all things, we
desire to glorify the Holy Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Like all orthodox Anglican parishes,
our worship is based on the Holy Scriptures, the Book of Common Prayer, and the
Hymnal. Each of these books is found in the pew.
On Sundays at 10:15 AM and on
major Holy Days, the Mass is sung and offered with solemnity. At other times the
Mass is said and the ceremonial is simpler; this is called Low Mass. Other
services offered at various times include weekday Masses, Morning Prayer (Mattins),
Evening Prayer (Evensong), Lessons and Carols, Benediction, Rosary, and
Intercessory Prayer services. Sacramental Confession is always available by
appointment and at regular times during Lent. A monthly calendar is posted in
the parish hall listing all of our services. You are always welcome to attend
and participate in any and all of our liturgies.
All baptized Christians who
have received the Sacrament of Confirmation from a Bishop in Apostolic
Succession are invited to receive the Blessed Sacrament.
Information about
parish membership can be obtained from the parish office. Baptisms and Marriages
can be arranged by appointment.
Parish Membership
Membership in Saint Alban’s Cathedral is open to everyone.
If you have not been
baptized, speak to a priest about instruction in the Christian Faith.
If you
were baptized in another church, you may be confirmed in the Anglican Church
after due instruction.
If you were confirmed by a Bishop of the historic
succession, our Bishop may receive you into the Anglican Province of America.
If
your membership is in another traditional Anglican parish, you may wish to
transfer to our parish by letter.
Please consider joining our parish in one of
these ways.
Confirmation classes, Enquirers’ classes, and Marriage preparation
courses are offered continually throughout the year for your convenience.
Everyone is invited to participate in the weekly cycle of Christian education
and formation opportunities which we provide.
